Let’s start with the basics. If you haven’t figured it out by now, TEN is a music magazine. It's only available online. It's completely free. It's totally, ridiculously awesome, and that is a scientific fact.

TEN is an experiment between three friends who love music. We love listening to it and talking about it, and we listen to really good shit. We all have jobs doing other things, but we have a desire to share our opinions about music. So we take care of creating and paying for the magazine, just to share it with you. Because we know that you probably listen to really good shit, too - otherwise you wouldn't be here.

We review the albums and live shows of ten artists each issue. We purposefully limit the number of reviews because we are selective, snobbish bastards. Oh yeah, and it also weeds out the rubbish and makes it easy for you to read.

Music is important, and that is why we started this magazine. Good music is art, and we consider the music that we review art. That idea is reflected in the badass, artistic design of the magazine.

We know the music that we listen to is good. We’re music snobs and proud of it. But that’s good for you because that means you will either discover some great new music or read a candid opinion about some music that you’re thinking about buying. Because we are totally independent, our reviews are honest. We can praise or demolish an album as much as we want because we live in America, damnit.

Besides being music snobs, we also like quoting pretty much any Will Ferrell movie, playing fantasy EPL soccer, and drinking scotch. But we only drink single malt scotch because we’re kind of snobs about that, too.
Mark McDavid
Editor-In-Chief, Writer

Several years ago, on an army base no less, Mark began playing guitar. Years later he would take to playing the mandolin, and eventually the bazouki. In his short life he has played in the neighborhood of 3-5 bands that many of you have never heard of (By Friday, The Sly Letter, Wisconsin Mistake, Silly Con Queso). He enjoys single-malt scotch and leather-bound books. These days he enjoys listening to most genres of music and playing Acoustic-Mark-Rock - a cross between Guster, Iron & Wine and Matt Pond PA. McDavid, as his friends like to call him, attended Texas A&M, and has an MBA from the University of Texas...which makes him, at times, one bossy mutha'f'er, a trait he will not deny. He currently lives in San Antonio, TX and is in rehabilitation for a broken foot.

Top 5 favorite bands (in order):
Guster
Nickel Creek
Iron & Wine
Sufjan Stevens
Glen Phillips
Matt Magruder
Art Director, Writer

Magruder began his love of music by sitting down in an over-sized mahogany wood chair as a child and listening to Afrika Bambaataa records. He then made his way through Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Folk, etc. Somehow Magruder ended up attending Texas A&M University and eventually graduated with an architecture degree. He now lives in Austin, TX, where he takes photos in his spare time (which is pretty much all the time) and thinks that doing laundry once a year is way too much. He's also been quoted saying "Terrible" and the letter "F" in his sleep. His dog's name is Maya. He prefers Lone Star beer over soap when bathing (No, not really, but it would be pretty cool if he did).

Top 5 favorite bands (in order):

Guster
Red House Painters/Mark Kozelek
Sigur Ros
Explosions in the Sky
Damien Rice
Neal Pickle
Marketing Director, Writer

Neal began his love of music listening to the thrashiest of thrash metal in middle school. After getting severe headaches and realizing that there IS such thing as too much double bass, his tastes evolved. In a weird twist of fate, Pickle (as only McDavid, Magruder, Slie & Cramp call him) became obsessed with mopey goth-alt-rock bands. He is at his happiest during Halloween when he can show his inner goth and paint his finger nails black in a socially acceptable manner. Pickle has been known to quote movie lines entirely too much while never thinking to himself that people around him may hate his guts for it. After attending Texas A&M University, he moved to Austin, TX, then to Dallas where he currently fights the daily battle of not becoming a materialistic bastard. Somehow he managed to marry a girl named Kim, and he has a suicidal goth-dog named Hazel.
